While cooking might seem like a dreaded chore for adults, involving kids in holiday cooking can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for the entire family. Not only does it create lasting memories, but it also fosters a love for food and the joy of cooking from an early age. In this blog post, we'll explore some fun and safe ways kids can actively participate in holiday cooking, turning the kitchen into a festive family hub.

  1. Simple and Safe Tasks:

Start by assigning simple and safe tasks to your little ones. Mixing, stirring, and pouring ingredients are excellent ways to get them involved without the risk of injuries. Depending on their age, children can also help with washing fruits and vegetables, setting the table, or arranging ingredients for easy access.

  1. Cookie Decorating Extravaganza:

One of the most beloved holiday traditions is baking cookies. Invite your kids to join in the fun by decorating cookies with colorful icing, sprinkles, and edible glitter. This not only adds a personal touch to your holiday treats but also allows for creativity to shine. Some of my best memories of being a kid was the holiday tradition of decorating sugar cooking and putting sprinkles all over them. Let's hope you're better at making cookies than my mom was - love you Mom!

  1. Customized Mini-Pizzas:

For a more savory adventure, consider making mini-pizzas. Provide a variety of toppings like cheese, pepperoni, and veggies, and let the kids assemble their own personalized creations. This not only encourages a hands-on approach but also allows them to make choices and express their taste preferences. You can use your oven, but also making them small allows for easy air-fryer use. 375 degrees for 7 or 8 minutes is perfect!

  1. Holiday-themed Fruit Kabobs:

Turn fruit into a festive affair by creating holiday-themed fruit kabobs. Use cookie cutters to shape fruits like watermelon and pineapple into holiday symbols. Kids can then assemble them onto skewers, creating a healthy and visually appealing addition to your holiday spread. Plus, it encourages them to eat healthy!

  1. Documenting the Culinary Adventure:

Encourage kids to document their cooking experience by taking pictures or creating a simple recipe journal. This not only captures the joy of the moment but also serves as a delightful keepsake for years to come - or hilarious photos to display at their graduation party!

Involving kids in holiday cooking is a wonderful way to create cherished memories and teach valuable life skills. By assigning age-appropriate tasks and embracing the joy of collaboration in the kitchen, you're not only preparing delicious meals but also fostering a love for food and family traditions.

Cheers!
