New Year, New Diet: Does Fasting Work?

The start of a new year starts out so promising for a lot of people.  "I'm gonna exercise more, eat right, save more, etc!"  Yet, after a few weeks we're back to where we were before and not doing any of those things.  I myself am no exception to this example, so I started thinking about ways I can peel off a few pounds on the Dad body belly to slim up.

I have heard of some extreme diets and fasting methods, or juicing and whatever but those were expensive and something I know I would never do.  I was shared an article on a different type of fasting for busy people, and I was very interested in learning more.  It is called the 5:2 fasting method.

The 5:2 fasting method is basically this:  Eat normally for 5 days, and on the other 2 days (non-consecutive) you eat less than 500 calories, which is approximately 25% of your average caloric intake.  Basically, you don't cause problems by depriving your body of nutrients (hence the non-consecutive days) but you do force it to consume fat cells to sustain, thereby losing weight on average of 1-2 pounds per week.

The 5:2 method is very similar to caloric deprivation of eating less per day, daily.  Yet for someone on the run or with a busy social schedule, this can be difficult.  Having two days a week that you can pick and choose of what will be a fasting day gives a lot of flexibility.  This way, the other 5 days are normal to help fill up your work/sports/social schedule accordingly.

Eating vegetables is a great way to fill up on fasting days with few calories, and I found that using a spiralizer is a great way to replace pasta noodles with vegetables.  I prefer this model https://amzn.to/4aIwFCU over cheaper ones because it is easier to use and doesn't hurt your hand as much.  Remember, alcohol counts as calories!  I found that drinking tea is a great alternative to soda because it's zero calorie.  I particularly love these two flavors of tea:  https://amzn.to/3tGNqh5 and https://amzn.to/3tHms91

I am going to give it a try for a while and see how it works!
